International Women’s Day 2025: How to Celebrate

Women are amazing—can we all agree on that? While we’ve come a long way in advancing women’s rights, there’s still more work to do! International Women’s Day (IWD) is all about celebrating progress while pushing for even greater change.

If you’re eager to support IWD but aren’t sure where to start, you’re in the right place. In this post, we’ll share meaningful ways to celebrate, fundraise, and make an impact. Plus, we’ll highlight some incredible organizations that are driving real change for women and girls worldwide.

Let’s #AccelerateAction together and make this International Women’s Day one to remember!

What is International Women’s Day?

Every year on March 8, International Women’s Day invites individuals, organizations, and communities around the world to celebrate women’s contributions to society and push for gender equality. It’s a day to recognize the progress we have made, acknowledge ongoing challenges, and take action toward a more inclusive future.

The International Women’s Day logo—a circular arrow looping around the female symbol—embodies support and unity. The day is also represented by three symbolic colors: purple for justice and dignity, green for hope, and white for purity.

IWD dates back to 1910 when German activist Clara Zetkin posed the idea of an international day for women’s rights. The first official celebration took place on March 8, 1911, in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland, with more countries—including the United States, which first marked the occasion in 1909—joining the movement over the years.

This year, International Women’s Day is on Saturday, March 8, 2025. The International Women’s Day 2025 theme is “Accelerate Action,” challenging us to step up efforts to remove barriers preventing women from reaching their full potential.

Individuals and organizations worldwide are called to #AccelerateAction by implementing strategies and resources that empower women and girls in leadership, education, health, economic opportunities, STEM, sports, the arts, and more.

5 Ways to Celebrate International Women’s Day

Whether you’re part of an organization looking to raise funds, or just looking for ways to celebrate in your daily life, here are five meaningful International Women’s Day activities that can make a difference.
