Shopify is one of the leading eCommerce platforms and website builders simplifying the process of collecting online donations. Many nonprofits use Shopify to find new donors and increase their income. Shopify allows users to sell merchandise, use their shipping system for delivery, and accept donations through a nonprofit store on Shopify. There are also many apps for nonprofits and charities on Shopify.
As a non-profit, you must verify your charity ID with the Shopify team to leverage Shopify for nonprofits as they have dedicated NPO Lite and NPO Full pricing plans. You will need to call their support team to learn more.
In addition to their features and great nonprofit pricing plans, Shopify’s built-in payment processor streamlines the donation process and helps with email marketing and other marketing automation. So as you can see, the options are endless but the question remains: how do you collect donations?
Once you have set up your Shopify online store, collecting Shopify donations is simple:
- Use the premade donate button that is linked to your secure donation page.
- Embed Donorbox’s customizable donation form or donate button.
Read on to find the best option for collecting donations using a Shopify e-commerce store.
How to Add a Donate Button to Your Shopify Site
Using Shopify to collect donations for your nonprofit can be beneficial if you are into selling nonprofit merchandise to your supporters and community members. The simplest way is to show your purchasers a prominent donate button as they go to the website to shop for your items. This way, you can encourage them to donate while using your e-commerce store to buy items.
Shopify donations can be accepted by adding a donate button to your Shopify website. Donorbox makes it a breeze for you! Check the steps out.
Step 1 – Locate Your Donate Button Code on Donorbox
From your list of campaigns, select the campaign you want to link to your Shopify store. Click “Go to Launchpad.”
Once at the Launchpad, you have some decisions to make! Donorbox has three kinds of donate buttons to choose from:
You’ll find the code for the pop-up form buttons on the tab that says “Pop-Up Donation Form” and the button for the Donorbox-hosted donation page on the tab that says “Donate Button.”
Step 2 – Copy Your Donate Button Code
Regardless of the type of button you choose, you’ll be able to customize the color, text, and default donation amount for your form. Then, copy the generated HTML code.
Step 3 – Paste the Code on Your Shopify Store
Once you have your button code copied, you can return to your Shopify Store editor. Locate your pages and choose which page you’d like to add your button to.
Locate the page you want to add your button to. From the page editor screen, click the icon on the right to access the page’s HTML. Here you can paste your button code!
Click “Save” and you’ll be able to see your button on your page.
How to Embed a Donation Form on Shopify
With the Shopify community of nonprofit merchants, all working toward a good cause and sharing their success stories, your nonprofit will have the inspiration to turn your e-commerce store into something more meaningful. Embed a recurring donation form and encourage purchasers to donate to your mission.
Donorbox’s recurring donation form lets you add suggested donation amounts so that your supporters understand how their donation will impact your cause. Your donation process will be smooth and donors will instantly receive donation receipts ensuring their donation experience is memorable.
Before embedding the donation form, ensure your site is SSL secure to protect donors’ information. Shopify stores use SSL encryption everywhere, so you are ready to embed the form!
Step 1 – Locate Your Donation Form Code on Donorbox
Access the Campaign Launchpad from your selected campaign, as pictured above. Select the “Embedded Donation Form” tab.
Step 2 – Copy Your Donation Form Code
Customize your form with a default recurring interval, pre-filled donation amount, and more. Then, copy the code below!
