Why You May Consider Canceling Your Givebutter Account
There are several potential reasons why you may be thinking of canceling your Givebutter account.
Let’s explore why some users may be inclined to make a change – all based on real nonprofit user reviews!
Optional tipping model
In order for Givebutter to remain a free-to-use fundraising platform, nonprofits must enable the optional tipping feature. This asks donors to pay an additional 15% optional tip on top of their donation to your organization, which goes directly to Givebutter.
If your nonprofit chooses to disable the option to ask donors to tip, then the standard platform fee of 1-5% will apply. This is in addition to the processing fee of 2.9% + 30¢ for credit/debit card and digital wallet transactions, and 1.9% + 30¢ for ACH transfers.
While Givebutter is transparent about its pricing model, it isn’t free for nonprofits who would rather not risk tapping into their donors’ tipping fatigue.
Lack of customization options
Email campaigns and customizable donation forms are a wonderful way for your nonprofit to engage a large pool of donors with personalized touches while boosting brand visibility.
Unfortunately, some Givebutter users have expressed a need for more email customization options.
I wish there were more templates or options for switching up the look of the emails. I tried to embed a video and it would be great if they could play the video directly from the email, instead of it taking them to a different site (YouTube for example) after clicking the link for the video. – Marisa C. on G2
Your nonprofit may also experience limited customization options available with Givebutter’s donation forms, which may be frustrating when trying to establish trust among supporters.
The customization options are a bit limited—I’d love to have more ways to match the donation pages with our brand’s vibe. – Verified User
Basic reporting and analytics
Having access to detailed analytics and reporting is crucial to understanding the success of your donation forms and campaigns so you can improve future fundraising strategies.
This provides valuable insights, like which platform your donors visited your donation page or campaign from, or which messaging worked best to engage and attract more supporters – and ultimately, secure more donations to your cause.
Givebutter offers a great set of reporting tools that help nonprofits gain a better overview of campaign success. However, some users have mentioned that the platform could offer more user-friendly and robust reporting and analytics. Your nonprofit may experience some reporting limitations compared to competitor platforms – which may be a reason you may consider canceling your Givebutter account.
Segmentation
Understanding the unique preferences, metrics, and behaviors of your donors is the key to effectively engaging them and helping them feel more connected to your mission.
While Givebutter does offer some segmentation options, you may find it a bit limiting if your nonprofit relies on more advanced functionality. Users have noted a lack of advanced filtering options, including segmenting according to specific donor information, like mailing addresses.
We are using a larger CRM system to track and manage donors and it’s not one that integrates well with Givebutter so much of the data is done manually. Segmenting new and lapsed odnors and having an automated process for each segmented population is important to us. We also have a larger population of older donors and need to have a more robust direct mail effort than they currently have, but there looks to be efforts in changing that soon. – Liz M.
