Five years ago, the Trans Journalists Association launched with a simple mission: to promote nuanced, accurate coverage of trans rights and communities in the media, and to support the careers of gender-expansive journalists.
That work has never been more urgent.
In the face of unprecedented political attacks on trans people and ever-shifting, uncertain news and media landscapes, we’re launching an anniversary campaign. Help sustain our efforts for another five years and beyond.
With your support, we can reclaim trans narratives.
Our goal is to raise $10,000 by our organizational birthday, June 30. Your support also goes farther, thanks to $2,700 in pledged contributions by our board and longtime members.
Here’s how your donation — no matter the amount — can help:
- $25 aids timely coverage advice that informs the whole journalism industry about best practices for covering trans communities and the news that affects us.
- $50 keeps our annual memberships free for trans, nonbinary, and gender-expansive journalists and students.
- $100 supports the expansion of our Stylebook and Coverage Guide, a tool for journalists to improve news coverage of trans communities, and our Workplace & Holistic Safety Guide, a tool that helps newsroom leaders and allies support trans workers.
- $250 helps us provide low-cost and free training to newsrooms, TJA members, and community groups.
- $500 fully covers a professional development stipend for a journalist.
