Goal
As a journalist, I know there's nothing more powerful than the truth. But as the political debates around transgender people rage on, the truth about us -- about our health care, about our successes and struggles, and even, as one executive order recently put it, about our capacity to live "honorable, truthful, and disciplined" lives -- risks getting lost in the flood of news coverage.
Five years ago, the Trans Journalists Association launched with a simple mission: to promote nuanced, accurate coverage of trans rights and communities in the media, and to support the careers of gender-expansive journalists. That work has never been more urgent.
Now, in honor of Pride month and of the five-year anniversary of TJA's founding, we’re trying to fundraise for the next five years and beyond.
Our goal is to raise a total of $10,000 by our "birthday," June 30. I'd love your help to get even halfway there! We are a 501(c)(3), so your donation is tax-deductible.
Here’s how your donation — no matter the amount — can help:
- $25 helps us write timely coverage advice that informs the whole journalism industry about best practices for covering trans communities and the news that affects us.
- $50 keeps our annual memberships free for trans, nonbinary, and gender-expansive journalists and students.
- $100 supports the expansion of our Stylebook and Coverage Guide, a tool for journalists to improve news coverage of trans communities, and our Workplace & Holistic Safety Guide, a tool that helps newsroom leaders and allies support trans workers.
- $250 helps us provide low-cost and free training to newsrooms, TJA members, and community groups.
- $500 fully covers a professional development stipend for a journalist.
