Yet Black nonprofits face significant challenges, with 86.5% of Black-led organizations reporting always or often struggling to access adequate funding sources.

Mission: To ensure that Black girls believe they belong in tech and launch them with the skills, opportunities, and resources to lead.
Black Girls Code is working to build the next generation of technologists and shape a more inclusive – and more powerful – tech landscape.
Through workshops, summer camps, an interactive YouTube series, and tons of member perks, BGC innovates to connect more Black girls with the resources they need to build successful careers in tech.
To date, BGC has reached over 40,000 learners through live and online workshops, and over 8 million global learners through digital content.

Mission: To dismantle racism and disrupt inequality to create a society where all people can truly be free.
As the largest Black-run nonprofit organization in the U.S. with over 2 million activists, the NAACP works to build Black political, economic, and social advancement and to end racial injustice.
Their work consists of youth programs, policy and legislation, programming to increase diversity in entertainment, and more.

This organization strives to connect Black youth with outdoor experiences through relevant and interesting programming, committed volunteers, and a deep sense of history.
Black Outside, Inc. offers two key programs:

Mission: To lead research, capacity-building, and public education to advance healing-centered policies and practices that dismantle pathways to criminalization and confinement and increase opportunities and safety for Black women and girls who are directly impacted by the criminal and juvenile legal systems.
In 2022, the incarceration rate for Black women was 1.6 times the rate of incarceration of white women. The National Black Women’s Justice Institute is working to change this – and has been for the last 10 years.

Mission: To increase the number of Black men who are super voters.
Founded by W. Mondale Robinson, the Black Male Voter Project recognized the shortcomings in the current methods being employed to reach Black men. Where traditional campaigning comes up short, this organization strives to fill in the gap and engages with voters directly in 17 priority states in the U.S.
Their methods include digital targeting, phone banking, peer-to-peer texting, relational organizing, and their signature ambassador program.

Mission: To combat and eradicate individual and systemic anti-Black racism in Ontario through education, advocacy, and litigation.
Established in 2017, this Ontario-based, Black charity works toward a society where anti-Black racism is addressed and the legal system is just and fair. Their current strategic plan, running until 2027, focuses on the following areas:
Mission: To revolutionize the narrative of Black creativity and intellect. Through innovative storytelling, media, technology, and educational programs, we empower individuals and communities to imagine and create a more inclusive and inspired future.
Founded by Dario Calmese, the Institute of Black Imagination curates digital archives, public programming, and a popular podcast to highlight the contributions of Black artists, designers, and thinkers.
The Institute is currently operating as a fiscally sponsored project in a two-year pilot phase. Some of their key initiatives include IBI Digital, a mobile-first archive experience, and the IBI Fellowship, which supports emerging Black creatives.

Mission: To teach accessible and engaging Black histories all year round, 365 days a year, to support social cohesion and knowledge development in young people.
The Black Curriculum is reimagining the future of education by creating innovative ways to share Black British history.
They accomplish this through teacher training, interactive sessions for young people to increase their knowledge, staff workshops, and corporate speaking sessions, among other activities. Their research and policy/advocacy work also informs their educational programming.

Mission: To protect and promote healthy Black communities, focusing on the U.S. and Ghana, with educational, social, and charitable purposes.
For 20+ years, HBC has been working to strengthen access to healthcare, improve mental health support, and boost civic engagement for Black communities in need.
From hosting free health clinics in the U.S. to delivering hands-on entrepreneurship workshops for young people in Ghana, HBC’s programs give communities the skills and resources to improve daily life.

Mission: To create access to capital, capacity, and community for under-resourced entrepreneurs that enable business sustainability and create intergenerational wealth for a more equitable society.
Since 2016, BGV has been working to fund and create solutions to unique challenges that under-resourced entrepreneurs face when seeking capital to grow their business.
Their unique pitch competition program allows founders to connect directly with audiences who then help crowdfund their businesses. They also host BGV Connect, a virtual community with webinars, gatherings, and support.
To date, they’ve served over 18,000 underrepresented women founders.

This Black-led charity focuses on empowering Black youth through mentoring, leadership training, education, health and wellness programming, and more.
Their motto is simple and moving – “What They See Is What They’ll Be.” This constant reminder encourages members of the organization to set good examples for children and mentees.

Mission: To empower makers of African descent to create immersive spaces that center our culture and community and, through the principle of Ujima, collectively work together to share knowledge, support, and resources.
Founded in 2018, BADG strives to cultivate Black leaders in artistic industries through connection and collaboration.
They support Black artists with their BADG Lab initiative, which provides space and support for creatives to take on projects without the constraints of client work.
They also work with partners in the Lifestyle brand space, like Pottery Barn, to create collaborative, innovative collections. Additionally, they fund the Creative Futures Grant, which provides two $5,000 awards to Black graduate students working in craft-based projects.

Black Beetle Health is a UK-based public health charity working hard to challenge stigma, close health gaps, and empower LGBTQ+ BPoC communities.
This black-led charity’s work focuses on accessible health education, signposting to culturally competent services, and amplifying the voices and experiences of marginalized individuals.
From addressing mental health and HIV stigma to elevating underrepresented narratives via their Black Beetle Health Podcast, this organization is redefining what inclusive, community-led health advocacy looks like!

Born out of founder Derin Lindsey’s personal health crisis, U.S.-based For Black Men Health Inc is yet another black-led nonprofit creating lasting change – one wellness event at a time.
From yoga to hip-hop fitness and financial health workshops, their monthly programs offer both practical support and community connection.
Through their signature campaign, “I Need Black Men to Go to the Doctor,” this organization is changing the narrative around healthcare for Black men. Their goal is to make it more visible, more urgent, and more accessible.

The largest Black-led charity in the U.S. is the NAACP, or the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. First founded in 1909, the NAACP is America’s largest and most recognizable Black nonprofit and has since grown to over 2 million activists.
