Across the country, food banks and pantries are working to provide additional support in light of SNAP benefits running out due to the government shutdown.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed and not sure where to start, we wanted to share some quick steps to get your online campaign live and ready to collect donations.

At Donorbox, our mission is to empower every organization to raise funds when they need them. Here’s how to quickly set up a donation form to start collecting the funds you need to get through this period – and beyond.

Step 1: Set Up Your Account

First things first – sign up for a Donorbox account if you don’t already have one. It’s quick, easy, and free. You’ll need your EIN handy if you’re a registered nonprofit.

1.2 Add a payment processor

Once your account is set up, you’ll need to add either Stripe or PayPal as a payment processor. You can also choose to add both and have access to all available payment methods for your donors.

  • Stripe allows you to accept payments made with cards, bank transfers, and digital wallets like Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App Pay, and more.
  • PayPal allows you to accept payments with cards, PayPal, and Venmo.

For a full breakdown of available payment methods, check out this article.

Whichever payment processor you choose, you’ll need an account.

  • Set up a PayPal account here.

Once your account is connected, you’re ready to start fundraising.

Step 2: Create Your Campaign

Next, navigate to the Campaigns page and click “New Campaign.”

You’ll see three options:

  • Donation form – choose this if you want to embed a form on your website.
  • Fundraising or crowdfunding page – choose this if you want to get a donation page live fast, with additional features like a donor wall and updates.
  • Membership form – choose this if you want to build out your membership program for ongoing support.

Whichever you choose, you’ll need to add your campaign information next.

You can also choose to add recurring donation intervals to turn donors into long-term partners for your organization. Choose up to four intervals from the following: one-time, daily, weekly, biweekly, first and fifteenth, monthly, quarterly, and annually.

You can also set one as the default and mark one with a heart to show your preferred interval. Fruits of Labor Food Bank did both on their form:

Step 3: Go Live

It’s time to get your form or page live! From the Campaigns page, click “Share & Embed.”

If you would like to embed your form, navigate to the Embedded Form tab and copy the embed code from there. Paste it on the relevant page from within your website builder.

You can also embed your form as a pop-up form, or use additional features like a Sticky Donate Button and Giving Reminder to drive more donations.

If you want to share your donation page, navigate to the “Donate Page” tab and copy your link.

Share it via email with your existing donors and on social media to capture new donors who want to support this crisis.

To amplify your reach, consider allowing anyone to fundraise on your behalf using Donorbox Peer-to-Peer.

To enable Peer-to-Peer, return to your campaign page and edit your campaign. You’ll see the Peer-to-Peer Fundraising option. When you click that, you’ll be able to edit your Peer-to-Peer settings.
