Provide us with a lifeline to keep our doors open and continue supporting Palestinian entrepreneurs
Salam!!
We are uMake, a co-working space and community for entrepreneurs, freelancers, and changemakers in Palestine. Since October 7th, our space has transformed from a vibrant and buzzing community of dreamers into a quieter environment.
Why?
Because most startups in Palestine have lost over 50% of their sales, and freelancers have faced significant job losses due to the ripple effects on other businesses in Palestine. Additionally, we have had to cancel many of our events and entrepreneurship programs because the situation is not conducive to hosting them amidst the ongoing crisis in Gaza.
Reality Check
Today, 90% of our dedicated desks are available, and 20% of our offices are also vacant. Yes, you read that right! We have lost over 70% of our sales. However, despite recent challenges, we remain resilient and committed to our mission.
Why are we crowdfunding?
Because we don’t want to lose six years of progressing entrepreneurship in Palestine. We want to stay in business, yes. But we also want to help other businesses and freelancers who are suffering as a result of the disastrous economic recession in Palestine. So, today, we are asking for your help to refill our space and get our vital programs up and running.
Your contribution can go towards:
- Sponsoring a dedicated desk or office space for startup members or job seekers.
- Sponsoring Startup Palestine founders events to help keep the initiative alive.
- Sponsoring our acceleration program, "Founder Institute," to help create new startups in Palestine.
uMake co-working: A two-floor co-working space in the heart of Ramallah that provides premier coworking services for Palestinian entrepreneurs, freelancers, remote workers, and changemakers.
Startup Palestine: A community-led initiative that aims to change the status quo and elevate Palestinian entrepreneurship, especially in these difficult times, by facilitating knowledge and resource sharing. We run two weekly events: Knowledge Sharing and Founders Meetup. We also manage a Discord community of 200 members.
Founder Institute: uMake runs the Founder Institute Palestine chapter, the world's largest and strongest acceleration program for tech and tech-enabled companies. We have conducted five cohorts since 2018 and graduated 32 startups.
Choose how you want to make an impact
But first, here is some context:
Before October 7th, uMake used to welcome 125 members daily. Now, only 30 can benefit from our space and services due to financial challenges and the market collapse. We aim to provide free access to those in need, restoring our community to its former size with your support. Currently, we are providing one free office to a startup and ten free coworking memberships. Here's our available space:
- 70 dedicated desks out of 81
- 6 small offices are available out of 11
- 1 startup office available out of 2
We'll connect you with the person or startup you're sponsoring to hear about your impact firsthand. Monthly support sustains this impact, but one-time donations are also appreciated.
Who are the changemakers you might influence?
Time to get to know us. What is uMake?
Since 2017, uMake has been more than a startup community hub in Ramallah; it's been a symbol of hope and a hub for new ideas. Hosting hundreds of members in the uMake coworking space, leading multiple programs and activities such as Founder Institute, StartupWeekends, and IGNTIE investment readiness programs. Our community, once buzzing with hundreds of members in tech, startups, and creative fields, is under threat. Projects vital for nurturing the next wave of Palestinian entrepreneurs are on pause, putting six years of hard work at risk.
We're not just a workspace; uMake is crucial for supporting social and tech entrepreneurs across Palestine. We've hosted 300 events, helped over 135 startups, and proudly stand as the only independent, community-focused startup hub in the country.
In this video, Daoud, the founder of uMake talks about the current challenge facing uMake, and other startups in Palestine.
