"In the City of Boston" - video invitation from Eric Arcese

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying,

‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’

And I said, ‘Here am I; send me!’

These words from the prophet Isaiah* powerfully remind us how we can respond faithfully when God calls us to service.

God is calling us all the time to bring Christ's healing love and reconciliation into the world. And how dearly the world needs us to bring it, soon and very soon!

It starts right here at home, at Trinity Church in the City of Boston.

In many and varied seasons throughout our nearly 300 year history, Trinity has worked for racial justice in Boston and beyond. Among our more recent activities have been:

  • the establishment of the Anti-Racism Team,
  • the annual presentation of the Anne Berry Bonnyman symposium,
  • the research and reporting of the parish's Task Force on Justice and Reparations,
  • the ongoing "Come and See" exhibit in our undercroft,
  • the regular "From the Historian" email series lifting up overlooked stories and individuals from Trinity's past, and
  • the steady adoption of Ubuntu principles throughout our ministries.

And alongside the efforts named above and others, we at Trinity have also launched and companioned Trinity Boston Connects, whose mission "to heal the traumatic impacts of systemic racism on youth of color in Boston" goes straight to our sacred calling to be repairers of the breach. **

Don't just take our word for it! Check out this video from Eric Arcese, "lifelong Bostonian, proud Latino, Trinity parishioner, and TBC board member" -

From its first beginnings more than two decades ago to the programs happening right now, TBC has actively and directly helped thousands of youth of color, and many thousands of adults who care for them day in and day out. You can help, too, on this Trinity Sunday in two important ways:

  • (1) Donate today to our online "day of giving" as we aim to raise $30,000 (or more!) for TBC's work. With thanks to our early contributors, we are well on our way! Building on our successful participation challenge from this morning, and in the spirit of the Trinity, can we TRIPLE our impact and make a stretch goal of 99 gifts by the time the altar candles are extinguished following this evening's worship service?

  • (2) Volunteer tomorrow morning to cheer on a group of TBC youth and mentors in person. Join our "Souls for Soles" cheering section as TBC's Sole Train runners participate in their final race of the year, Boston's Run to Remember. Help get them across that finish line!

God is calling us continually to bring Christ's healing love and reconciliation into the world. May we respond with faith, "Here am I; send me!"

Early in the morning, our song shall rise to thee....plus video by Pam Waterman and Michelle Coleman!

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!

Early in the morning our song shall rise to thee...

Blessed Trinity Sunday, people of Trinity Church!

In recent weeks you've heard a little about our plans for Trinity Sunday, and that glad day is finally at hand.

We celebrate our namesake feast day with our worship liturgy (shifting to our summer and holiday worship schedule today, with services at 9 am and 5 pm) and with our generosity. This year marks our fourth annual special Trinity Sunday initiative, and with joy we dedicate our Trinity Sunday efforts this year to building support for Trinity Boston Connects (TBC).

TBC's mission to "heal the traumatic impacts of systemic racism on youth of color in Boston" is a primary way that we at Trinity Church live out our baptismal covenant. We promise to seek and serve Christ in all persons. We promise to strive for justice and peace among all people.

As you will hear in the accompanying video from Pam Waterman and Michelle Coleman, TBC is a vital ministry of our church, a tangible way we go out into the world to do the work God has given us to do.

For decades the people of Trinity Church have supported TBC's vital work with gifts of all sorts and sizes. Together we have dreamed and prayed. Together we have rolled up our sleeves and laced up our shoes. Together we have built Beloved Community. And together we look forward to the work that still lies ahead for us all!

To celebrate "Trinity Sunday+ for TBC" we invite you to support TBC in two important ways:

  • Donate today  to our online "day of giving" and help us raise $30,000 (or more!) for TBC's many programs. With thanks to the already generous giving of our parishioners, funds have been identified in our parish budget to match gifts made through today's campaign! Early birds of Trinity Church, can we get to at least 33 gifts made by the time the cross comes down the center aisle at our morning worship?

  • Volunteer tomorrow morning at our "Souls for Soles" cheering section as TBC's Sole Train runners participate in their final race of the year, Boston's Run to Remember. Youth and mentor runners will bring the speed and we will bring the spirit!

However you choose to join, your support makes a difference, in spirit and in substance, and we are grateful.

...Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty,

...God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Video invitation from Jill Norton, Trinity parishioner, TBC board member, and co-chair of TBC's upcoming gala

There's an old saying, "Good things come in threes." As we look ahead to Trinity Sunday - the feast of our triune God who is creator, redeemer, and sustainer all in one - check out our third parishioner testimonial about the important relationship between Trinity Church and Trinity Boston Connects. Jill Norton gives us that good news in her video, which you can watch here (or by clicking on the image below)!

Invitation from the Rector to participate in 2024's Trinity Sunday!

May 15, 2024

Dear Trinity Church and friends,

Grace and Peace and Easter greetings! I write to share the exciting plans to celebrate our parish feast day, Trinity Sunday, which in this year’s liturgical calendar falls on Sunday, May 26. As we have in each of the last several seasons, we will dedicate our efforts on that glad day to meet – together as a parish – a specific need, with gifts of both time and treasure[i]. This year, we will support the important work of our partner organization, Trinity Boston Connects (TBC).

TBC seeks to heal the traumatic impact of systemic racism on youth of color in the city of Boston by serving both youth and youth-serving organizations. TBC grew out of our congregation’s TEEP (Trinity Education for Excellence Program) and TBCC (Trinity Boston Counseling Center) ministries, both started more than twenty-five years ago. In time, the organization became a “subsidiary,” 501c3 non-profit of Trinity; additional programs were added; and, eventually, would change its name from the “Trinity Boston Foundation,” to TBC. Today, TBC “connects” Trinity to leaders and partners beyond our congregation, amplifying our shared impact.

To celebrate Trinity Sunday, we will offer several ways for you to connect with TBC, too – as a donor, as a volunteer, or as both!

On Sunday, May 26, we will host an online day-of-giving, with inspiring email messages throughout the day, including fun video invitations from faces familiar in our pews. Dollars raised through this effort will be matched by additional funds identified in our parish budget. These collected monies will be given together as a single gift on behalf of the whole church. If you have made a stewardship pledge to Trinity, you are already supporting TBC and all the other ministries and programs of our church … and, if you have the means to give a little more, we hope you will contribute generously to the Trinity Sunday campaign. Early access is available now.

Then on Monday, May 27, come out in person to see and support TBC in action! We will host a “SOULS for SOLES” cheering section and water station that morning at Boston’s Run to Remember. “Sole Train” is one of TBC’s longest-running (pun intended) programs, a community-building and mentoring program for youth in our city that offers running as the vehicle for setting and achieving seemingly impossible goals. The Run to Remember is the capstone race for Sole Train’s program-year efforts. We will cheer them on with spirit (pun intended again) as they head toward the finish line. Sign up here.

TBC’s programs have transformed the lives of thousands of youth. As Trinity Church "in the city of Boston," this work deeply concerns our faith community, and parishioners have been faithful volunteers and donors and leaders from TBC's earliest beginnings. On Trinity Sunday, we hope you will join this long line of faithful friends – indeed, as "companions in the household of God." Donate and cheer generously to support the important work TBC does in building Beloved Community, our dream for this city and God's dream for the whole world.

Faithfully,

The Rev. Morgan S. Allen

Rector

[i] You will recall that in 2021, our “Trinity Sunday of Giving” supported health and safety upgrades to our church, as well as installing worship livestream capabilities, to meet the needs of ministry in pandemic times. In 2022, we reprised the day-of-giving model and raised funds to continue our own worship enhancements, and also to share funds with partner parishes in Uvalde, Texas, and Buffalo, New York, following mass shootings in those communities. In 2023 we hosted a hands-on Day of Service, with hundreds of volunteers packing more than 50,000 meal kits shared with hungry neighbors around the city and through partner organizations in Ukraine. If you participated in one or more of these initiatives, thank you!
