Who We Are
Since 1887, The Daily Collegian has been the standard of excellence for student journalism nationwide. As an independent and student-run newspaper, the Collegian serves the Penn State student, alumni and State College communities by providing you with the news you need.
Our Mission
The Daily Collegian strives to publish objective and ethical journalism across all platforms where you find your news. At the same time, it trains each generation of award-winning reporters. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Collegian has always produced free and accessible journalism to help inform the Penn State and local communities.
Funding
On July 21, 2023, the Penn State Board of Trustees cut the Collegian’s funding by 50% for the 2023-24 academic year and by 100% the following year. While this is an opportunity to grow, it is a reminder that it’s you who makes free, independent and student-run journalism possible at Penn State. With your support, the Collegian continues to make campus and State College a safe and informed community, as well as train the next generation of ethical and objective journalists of the highest caliber.
