***May 16 update: We hit our $20K reach match goal for our May Day fundraiser ahead of schedule, meaning we raised over $40,000 in less than three weeks! Check our updates page for more info. Please keep donating and help us reach our overall campaign goal!
***April 14 update: Please see this letter of support for our campaign from Eric Blanc, Mike Davis, Meagan Day, Steve Early, Bill Fletcher, Robin D. G. Kelley, Nelson Lichtenstein, Peter Olney, Ken Paff, Paul Schrade, and Jane Slaughter. We're grateful for your support!
We are a grassroots movement of rank-and-file workers in the United Auto Workers (UAW) who are seeking your support in a once-in-a-generation opportunity to help transform our union. This fall, UAW workers will vote in a referendum on adopting a “one member, one vote” system of electing top union officers. If this vote passes, we’ll join our union sisters and brothers in the Teamsters, the Laborers, and Postal Workers in being able to directly elect our leaders.
We need your support in order to win this vote! The Administration Caucus has deep pockets and they will try to convince UAW members that they don’t deserve the right to elect their own leaders, or that the vote won’t matter anyway. Please make a donation today to help us win democracy in our union.
Few unions have played a more important role in the history of the American labor movement than the UAW. We are the workers that organized the historic 1936-7 Flint sit-down strike, unionized the auto industry giants, and supported civil rights activists in Selma, Birmingham, and Washington, DC.
However, UAW is not the union it once was. This is in part because for almost 70 years, lack of direct elections has led to our union being ruled by a one-party state, the Administration Caucus. They have let corruption overtake our union, leading to the indictment of two former presidents and many more high-ranking officials for embezzlement and other crimes. The same leadership has also sold us out by negotiating concessionary contracts, failing to organize non-union workers, and introducing “tiers” in our plants.
All donations will go directly to Unite All Workers for Democracy (UAWD), our grassroots movement of UAW workers which has been organizing for democratic reforms in the UAW since 2019. This will supplement the internal funds that we raise from our own members. UAWD members work in auto manufacturing, higher education, legal services, and many other industries in all regions of the UAW. Your donations will be used to help cover the costs of organizing, including staff, materials and travel, as well as legal fees in the fight for one member one vote and beyond. We deeply appreciate your support. Together, we can win this breakthrough for the labor movement.
NOTE: Please note that we cannot accept donations from any employers. If you employ one or more individuals, we cannot accept your donation. We are an unincorporated nonprofit association and donations are not tax-deductible.
