Last month, we made the unfortunate announcement that we were under imminent threat of closing. Since then, we’ve raised over $200,000 thanks to supporters like you. This monumental success is a testament to the demand for local journalism and a beacon of hope for Chicago’s local news ecosystem.
We’ve come far, but our journey toward financial stability is far from over. Funding for nonprofit newsrooms remains slim and we rely on ongoing donations to sustain our operations.
To help us reach our goal, a generous donor has pledged a $5,000 match. Through March 31, every dollar you give will be doubled.
Your donation supports our work of connecting Chicago through long-form, in-depth, journalism. We employ a broad mix of freelancers and staff writers who cover niches from across the city including issues in housing policy, theater and dance, music, governmental surveillance, and LGBTQ+ rights.
Right now, every dollar literally has double the impact. We are in a critical period where accessible, free news must remain available to the public. The Chicago Reader’s unique approach to journalism has the power to connect communities and people who might otherwise remain strangers—even within the same city.
Please continue to donate and stand in support of local journalism.
