An update for our donors: last week we visited the governmental wildlife rescue center in Pu Mat National Park to further progress with the gibbon reintroduction project. The management board of the park expressed great interest in the presented reintroduction project. During our visit, we conducted a preliminary inventory of the captive gibbons residing in the center.
The five gibbons residing in the center, are all likely northern white-cheeked gibbons. Unfortunately, some of these gibbons have a traumatic past due to their history in the pet trade and years of confinement. However, a general assessment, we have identified some potential gibbons who may be suitable for reintroduction into the wild.
We still have a lot of work ahead of us to ensure that the selected gibbon breeding pair are well prepared for their new life in the wild. We plan to conduct further evaluations, such as behavioral, genetic, and health assessments, to determine their fitness for the project. We appreciate your continued support as we work towards providing these gibbons with a better future
