THE INSTITUTE FOR CULTURAL ENGAGEMENT: NEW WINE, NEW WINESKINS 501(c)(3) NONPROFIT IS PROUD TO CELEBRATE THE TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP OF THE MULTNOMAH UNIVERSITY NEW WINE PROGRAM IN ITS ENTIRETY TO THE NEW WINE 501(c)(3)

A new day for New Wine is dawning

New Wine, New Wineskins has a bright future because of its rich past. New Wine is grateful to all who have contributed to the New Wine program at Multnomah University and its outreach to the local and global communities. New Wine has produced many conferences, forums, and other educational materials over the years that have touched many in profound ways. A great number of these resources are freely available to the public at the organization’s YouTube channel.

The Institute for Cultural Engagement: New Wine, New Wineskins began at Multnomah University in 2000 and became an official program of the university a few years later. In 2019, The Institute for Cultural Engagement became a nonprofit, while still remaining an official program of the university.

The nonprofit is now the sole entity to carry out the mission and vision of New Wine.  Multnomah University has graciously transferred ownership of its New Wine program and all related assets to the 501(c)(3).

Over the course of two decades, many in the Portland area and beyond have helped to solidify and build New Wine as a platform for offering resources, consultation, and training uniquely created to address and serve marginalized populations against the backdrop of increasing cultural divisions in such difficult areas as race and class, sexuality and gender, faith and science, and religious pluralism, among others. The organization’s mission is focused on transforming the church’s conflicts, both within the church and with the surrounding culture, into opportunities for unity through the Triune God’s grace and truth. A key aim is to help equip generations of Jesus’ followers to extinguish hate, intolerance and misunderstanding and maximize grace and truth for human flourishing in our world today. The New Wine nonprofit provides education and consultation grounded in a desire for personal and community transformation. It also publishes a peer-reviewed academic journal, Cultural Encounters—A Journal for the Theology of Culture.

The Institute for Cultural Engagement: New Wine, New Wineskins requests your involvement and support as it assumes full responsibility for all aspects of its operations. New Wine invites collaboration with churches, community organizations, and individuals with similar values, and welcomes financial contributions of any amount. As a 501(c)(3), donations are tax deductible. Tax ID #: 83-4634281.

The New Wine nonprofit welcomes opportunities to further elaborate on its mission, vision and future endeavors. New Wine Founder and Director Paul Louis Metzger, PhD ([email protected]) and Board Officer Ross Halbach, PhD, ([email protected]) are available for interviews.

Letter from New Wine's Director
Thank you for the various ways you contribute to New Wine's ministry in service to the local church and surrounding communities in which we live. We could not do our work in "building relational bridges through Jesus in contemporary culture" without you!

I wanted to write and let you know that a great matching gift opportunity has arisen to help build bridges with New Wine. We are looking to match gifts up to a total amount of $12,500. The matching gift would make it possible for us to double the giving to $25,000! Our aim is to raise the $25,000 by the end of May.

These resources will help us immeasurably as we continue cultivating our work as a non-profit in the areas of education and consultation for the sake of community transformation. We are currently making progress in our mustard seed initiative, which you can find here. The hope is to launch our course offerings and related initiatives, as well as provide memberships resources for supporting our New Wine community, later this year. Your contribution will help to put in place the structures to make these offerings available.

Would you please prayerfully consider making a gift at this time through the end of May? Your prayer support and charitable partnership with New Wine are vitally important for us in living out our mission, vision, and values as a movement.

Thank you very much.

Gratefully and prayerfully yours,

Paul Louis MetzgerDirector
