Every child matters, which is why the Liberian Youth Orchestra is working to make music education accessible to Liberian children. Liberia is one of the poorest nations in the world with one orchestra... ours! We believe in providing Liberian children a path of opportunity, hope, and dignity through music education, leadership training and mentorship.
Over the past several years, we have seen 35 students exceed all expectation with their passion, hard work, and pursuit of musical knowledge. They have not only excelled in music, but also in academics, speaking skills, discipline, and leadership.
Why are we seeking to raise so much money? We are at a point in our journey that we need our own independent music school. We will be moving out of the Heart of Grace School in 2023. We have been blessed to have a great start here, but it is time for us to become independent. This past year was very difficult. Due to factors within the schools we operate in, our program was shut down for a year. As you can imagine, this was devastating to the children in the program, our staff, and our Director. After much discussion and prayer, the LYO Board of Directors has decided we need a much greater level of control over the LYO program.
After a trip to Liberia in September with 3 board members, God has opened a door of opportunity for us at the YMCA Liberia. We are excited to continue our program in 2 YMCA locations. The first YMCA is located in Jacob's Town, just down the road from the Heart of Grace School. This location will allow our current students to continue in the program, but iit also opens up opportunities for other children from different schools in the community to be a part of the LYO. The second location is right in the heart downtown Monrovia. This YMCA has over 500 children come through its doors every day. Our goal is to make our music education program accessible to more Liberian children.
So we have some big projects ahead to get these 2 facilities ready for use by our LYO family. We are asking for your help. Together with your gracious support we can renovate and operate our new music schools at the YMCA's in Liberia and give this opportunity to many more Liberian children.
