One of our day-to-day activities is what we call "making rounds". In CEUTA there are children in street situation who, for different reasons, do not want to enter a centre for minors. Some need to earn money because they are the only breadwinners for their families in Morocco and they clean cars, help to put away the supermarket shopping, etc.; others are afraid of being identified by the authorities and then being sent back to Morocco illegally, as has already happened.
Living conditions on the streets are very hard, especially for children who are alone in the city. We are looking for ways to encourage them to recognize their rights and that they end up attending the places set up for them. But while they are still on the street, on our rounds we make sure that they are well, that they have not had any serious mishaps during the day, and we make sure to share with them a few smiles and a bit of affection.
These children are scattered around the city, so we move from one place to another by van, which also carries clothes in case any of them have torn theirs. After all, we all like to be clean and well dressed.
A few days ago, the van stopped working. Replacing the clutch and the gearbox costs €586. As you know, No Name Kitchen is an independent organization and we carry out our work thanks to the support of donations. This makes as independent but it also entails that our resources are limited.
