Foster based dog rescues throughout Ontario and all across Canada are currently in crisis due to a dramatic increase both owner and shelter surrender requests. This is unlike anything we've ever seen before. As the only all senior and/or palliative care rescue in our area, there is a huge demand for our services. The dogs we welcome into our care have no other place to go and are most often considered to be unadoptable by shelter standards. This places them at a high risk of euthanasia. We have worked hard to keep our doors open to intake as many at risk dogs as possible, preventing euthanasia and offering these dogs their second chance at finding happy. We have also been able to provide many people with choice and peace of mind with the intake of their personal dog into our foster program when they themselves are unable to provide further care due to their own health or other reason.
Founder and Director Angela Balcom is known across Canada for what she does and is often the first call made by a partnering shelter when a senior dog comes into their care. As an Ontario Registered Not-for-profit, we are 100% dependent on donations and fundraising opportunities and do not receive any government funding. Our organization is run on 100% volunteers. We rescue 100% Canadian dogs.
In July 2019, our team began hosting events, raising money to help fund the expensive medical care and placement of senior dogs. We have many wonderful volunteers throughout Ontario cities like London, Strathroy, Toronto, Burlington, Hamilton, Kitchener, Guelph, Niagara, Sarnia, and Grand Bend, and have rescued over 594 senior dogs and counting.
