"Hello, I am Georgina.
At birth I was given the name Georgio. Because I am Intersex, the doctors couldn't decide what gender I am. So my parents decided to register and raise me as a boy. With all the consequences attached. I was raised as a boy, had to do boy's things. And because I was registered as a boy I had to join the army. As long as I remember I felt like a girl. And as an intersex I have both characteristics of male and female physique.
I want to thank you, my dear sponsors, for supporting me through this difficult journey. Your help has made it possible for me to share my story and keep hoping for a better future. My physical condition made my father think it was ok to sexually abuse me. And worse, he invited his brothers and friends to do the same. One day I managed to escape, to Lebanon. During the bombings in Lebanon I had a terrible frightening time. After that I found out my family from Egypt was tracking me down. So I could not stay there much longer. I tried to escape to Jordan, but was refused at the airport. Thanks to your generous support, I could get a visa and ticket to another country. For my safety I prefer to keep that a secret.
Here now I will have to stay with a tourist visa until I find a permanent solution. One could be that I get a sex correction operation, so I will become a woman physically 100%. Then I can change the gender in my passport, and Egypt (and the military in Egypt) won't accept me back. I could get a residence permit then in the country where I am staying in now. Another option would be relocation to a country that accepts intersex as a reason for asylum. I am working very hard on that with the UNHCR.
Your monthly donations have helped me survive, paying for rent, food, and medicines, as I am not allowed to work here. I deeply appreciate each one of you who has contributed to my safety and wellbeing. If you are able to increase your monthly donation, even by a small amount, it would help me tremendously as costs keep rising. I am still hoping to reach 30 to 60 regular donors to ensure I can eat and live while working towards my goals.
I'm also seeking funding for an operation, so any one-time donations would be very helpful too. The operation will cost around $6000 and will help me change my passport and get residency outside my home country. If you cannot spare any money, sharing my story with others who might be able to help would mean so much to me.
I promise to keep updating you through my blog posts and videos about my progress and challenges. Each update helps me feel connected to the wonderful community that has formed around my journey. You give me strength and hope for a better future. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for standing with me.
With deep gratitude,
Georgina
Thanks to the support of Freethinkers International and generous donors, Georgina has managed to relocate to a safer environment. However, this is still not a permanent solution. She remains at risk, and without stable legal status or long-term housing, her future is uncertain. She needs urgent assistance to reach true safety.
How You Can Help
We are raising €600 per month to cover Georgina’s essential needs—rent, food, and medical care—until she can secure a stable and safe future.
In addition, one-time donations will help fund the €6,000 gender-affirming surgery she urgently needs. This procedure is crucial for her to legally change her identity and obtain a residence permit in a country where she can finally live in safety.
Every contribution, big or small, brings her closer to security and freedom.
