Friends of Fort Greene Park urgently needs funds for our lawsuit against New York City. 78 beautiful urban shade trees are still standing because since 2017 the community has supported two lawsuits and an appeal (all successful) opposing the Parks Department plan to raze the trees and replace them with a hardscape plaza.
The Friends of Fort Greene Park support the protection and preservation of the urban forest in Fort Greene Park, with appropriate forestry care to maintain the canopy of mature trees. The tree grove, greenspace and play areas along Myrtle Avenue are and should remain a beloved community gathering place for residents. NYC has declared a climate emergency and our preservation efforts are aligned with the need to repair and maintain Fort Greene Park in the face of escalating climate change.
