The Opportunity:
Something extraordinary is happening across the nation. The animal rights movement is uniting to end one of the cruelest practices in food production, and we're winning.
Over the past two years, activists have successfully pressured over 100 US restaurants to drop foie gras.
Pro-Animal Future will continue this momentum by passing legislation to prohibit the force-feeding of ducks and geese and the sale of foie gras in Denver, Portland, and Washington D.C by the end of 2026.
The Strategy:
Foie gras represents the perfect strategic target – a weak point in industrial animal agriculture where we can win concrete victories and create momentum for broader reforms.
On foie gras farms, male ducks are repeatedly force-fed through metal tubes until their livers swell to ten times their normal size.
Persuading voters to support a ban on foie gras expands what the public considers “acceptable regulation” of industrial agriculture. When force-feeding birds becomes illegal, people naturally question other factory farming practices. If voters can agree that a tiny but brutal practice must go, they’re more likely to support bans on larger but less visible forms of cruelty. Start small, win big.
The Ask:
Political campaigns are powerful mobilization tools because they offer a clear, achievable goal with a distinct timeline – but to run effective campaigns, we have to secure funding.
What we'll accomplish with $50,000 (doubled to $100,000):
Build vibrant new PAF chapters in DC and Portland while expanding our Colorado chapter
Lead successful campaigns in Denver, Portland, and DC to prohibit the force-feeding of birds and the sale of force-fed foie gras
Gather 55,000 signatures to qualify two citizen initiatives for the 2026 ballot
Train hundreds of new animal activists in voter outreach and lobbying
Create educational materials for voters about the foie gras industry
Improve our websites to persuade voters and recruit activists
Publish a 10-part podcast series on Spotify to train activists on PAF's core principles and strategy
The Time to Act is Now.
Last year in Denver, our ballot initiatives to ban fur and slaughterhouses forced animal rights as the city's defining political conversation. By election day, nearly every voter had heard our message.
This next set of grassroots campaigns will enable us to educate over one million voters about the conditions that birds face inside factory farms. With your help, we’ll build a foie gras-free future, one city at a time!
