Israel's youth are returning home. ELEM is implementing new models to provide Jewish and Arab youth with desperately needed emotional support and mental health resources to reintegrate them into decimated northern cities and villages.
As families begin to return home, displaced teens—who have spent over a year facing immense hardships—are confronting a new reality where their personal, familial, and communal resilience has been shattered.
During the war, many families broke apart, others suffered severe economic hardships, communities were uprooted, and schools shut down. Teens are now returning to homes that no longer feel the same, and to an environment that has been irrevocably altered. They are coping with the lasting erosion of trust, security, and hope for the future.
ELEM’s new Bringing Our Youth Home project is designed to support teenagers as they leave evacuation sites, return to their home communities, and navigate the long and challenging process of readjustment in areas profoundly changed by war.
The project will establish a holistic support system that addresses all aspects of young people's lives, ensuring that each teenager receives the support and care they need to transition back, lessen the impact of trauma, and build a stable and healthy future.
Special focus will be given to communities facing severe socio-economic challenges and lacking similar services, where the need for support is even more urgent.
The foundation of youth rehabilitation is the development of a comprehensive network of services that addresses all aspects of their lives. In each community, ELEM will establish at least two of the following support spaces:
- School-Based Breathing Spaces (Shluk Model)
- Street-Based Emotional Support Spaces (Outreach Van Model)
- Virtual Emotional Support Spaces (ELEM Digital)
