February 2024 Update

Chinatown Gateway Plaza RFP Update:

Aloha DAC ʻOhana,

The paperwork is in for our bid for DAC’s long-term lease of our space at Chinatown Gateway Plaza, plus expanded vacant areas of the building, which we plan to make a hub for Hawaiʻi's creative community with makerspaces and more resources for artists. Our current lease has been extended while the committee reviews our bid proposal for the additional spaces.

Stay tuned for even more exciting new programming and DAC community projects for 2024 - and if you love what we're doing and want to support it, we welcome your donation!

Happy Holidays, and an update on the progress of our long-term lease request!

Dear Downtown Art Center ʻOhana,

A while ago, DAC asked you to write to the Honolulu Mayor's Office in support of giving the Downtown Art Center a long-term lease. These letters were submitted November 17th when I testified to the City Council  Committee on Zoning and Planning in support of a resolution "approving the use of competitive sealed proposals process to award a master lease agreement ("lease") for the operation and management of a Community Culture and Arts Center in the Chinatown Gateway Plaza ... and authorizing a ten-year lease term, with options for three five-year extensions to the lease."

Resolution 22-263 CD1 was soundly approved by the Committee on Zoning and Planning on November 17.

The next step is for the resolution to go before the Full Council for a vote. If approved, a request for

proposals will be issued and Downtown Art Center will have the opportunity to submit a sealed bid.

Something is finally happening.

We hope we can count on your continued support as the competitive bid process is launched sometime in early 2023. In the meantime, please continue to support us by:

-Attending our arts, culture and music events (you can find updates on our Facebook, Instagram, or at downtownarthi.org).

-Becoming a regular donor via a recurring monthly donation here on Donorbox.

-Remembering us in your year-end giving!

Mahalo for your support as we enter the new year!

Warm Regards,

Sandra Pohl, Executive Director
