Hi, I am Sebastian Ng, a high school student from North Carolina. Like many young people, my friends and I realize that Climate Change is probably the biggest challenge that we will have to deal with during our lifetimes.
After a successful first fundraiser, some new friends have joined the Youth Climate Initiative and collectively we are launching our second project:
We are shutting down another abandoned Super Emitter well that is spewing tons of dangerous methane.
About Our Project:
The Allen #030, a Legacy Orphan Oil Well in Toole County, Montana was drilled in July of 1929, by Big West Oil Company and supported the local refinery for years. This well became an Orphan in the early 1990’s when the last operator, Cavalier Petroleum, went out of business and the well formally became the responsibility of the State of Montana where it has sat idle, emitting harmful greenhouse gasses every minute.
Emission factors of >651,000 ppm of CH4 (methane gas) have been measured by the Well Done Foundation on site.
This site has a methane flow rate equivalent to over 2,154.16 metric tons of CO2e annually
If we don’t plug it, it will spew over 43,082 Metric Tons of emissions by 2044! Stopping the emissions from this Methane Super Emitter is enormously impactful.
