Help women in rural Tanzania, who live alongside the endangered elephants, to create meaningful coexistence with wildlife while achieving financial independence.
Our Women & Bees campaign empowers women, like Theresa, with sustainable livelihoods in beekeeping, permaculture practices and regenerative agriculture. First to embrace beekeeping on our project sites were the fiercely determined NARI Women in Upper Kitete village, bordering the ancient Ngorongoro Crater. The group of thirty-six women are leading the way to prevent conflict with the Endangered elephants, restore critical forest habitats, and improve food security for their families.
Your support will go directly to the development of the Women's Elephant Enterprise Hub, a multi-functional learning centre for honey processing, training sessions, permaculture demonstration plots, a renewable energy biogas plant, and a water harvesting reservoir.
Background
Elephants and people live in close proximity to one another in Tanzania, both depending on the same natural resources and struggling to survive the extreme impacts of a changing climate. Women are particularly marginalised, given little to no access to education, responsible for their family's well-being and completing dangerous treks across elephant corridors for firewood and water.
By doing so, women have a unique understanding of the environment around them and are the local ambassadors for forest protection. Supporting women has a ripple effect on their families and the wider community.
"We follow the bees. They show us the way; how to work in partnership with nature, to help our families, and the wildlife."
Group Secretary, Theresa.
Please join us in helping the trailblazing women to establish their Elephant Enterprise Hub. This scalable model will inspire women's groups across Tanzania with practical, income-generating activities that enhance the protection of biodiverse ecosystems that both people and elephants depend on.
THANK YOU!
