Wise is shutting Palestinians out of banking.
“When Wise froze my account, they didn’t just block my money. They ignored my critical situation completely. I reached out, told them I live alone, that this is the only place I keep my savings, and that I was under huge pressure while my family was living through a genocide. They gave me nothing back، not even a clear answer on whether I’d ever get my money again.
They left me in fear and uncertainty, carrying the stress of survival on top of everything else. The way they treated my situation showed no care, no responsibility, no humanity.”
These are the words of a Palestinian woman in Italy whose Wise account was shut down overnight right after October 2023. No warning. No explanation.
This is not an isolated case: there are several reports of other Palestinians, from Gaza, whose bank account was suddenly closed overnight.
Acase against wise is now before the Court of First Instance of Brussels, where, with the support of the European Legal Support Center (ELSC) and the assistance of the lawyers’ collective Progress Lawyers Network (PLN), two Palestinian women are seeking accountability for an unlawful and discriminatory action.
This is not only a matter of contract law and consumer rights, but also about the systemic problem of financial exclusion faced by Palestinians in Europe and beyond.

Racism is not only sustained by walls, weapons, and occupation in Palestine. Here in Europe and in Britain, it is also enforced through the financial sector.
Wise - one of the world’s biggest Fintech companies - is a top offender. By shutting Palestinians out of their own accounts, Wise is denying a basic right: access to your money and the ability to live free from discrimination.

Cosa sta succedendo?
“Quando Wise ha bloccato il mio conto, non si è limitata a congelare i miei fondi. Ha completamente ignorato la mia situazione personale. Li ho contattati, ho spiegato che vivo da sola, che questo è l’unico conto di risparmio, e che stavo affrontando un periodo di enorme pressione mentre la mia famiglia viveva un genocidio.
Non mi hanno dato nessuna spiegazione, nemmeno una risposta chiara sul se e quando avrei potuto riavere i miei soldi.
Mi hanno lasciata nella paura e nell’incertezza, caricandomi del peso di come sopravvivere economicamente, oltre a tutto il resto. Il modo in cui mi hanno trattata ha mostrato un’assoluta mancanza di cura, di responsabilità e di umanità.”
Queste sono le parole di una donna palestinese in Italia, il cui conto Wise è stato chiuso improvvisamente subito dopo ottobre 2023.
Nessun prevviso. Nessuna spiegazione.
E non è di un caso isolato: ci sono diverse segnalazioni di altri palestinesi, provenienti da Gaza, i cui conti bancari sono stati chiusi da un giorno all’altro.
Oggi, un procedimento contro Wise è all’esame del Tribunale di Primo Grado di Bruxelles. Con il supporto di European Legal Support Center (ELSC) e la rappresentanza legale del collettivo di avvocati Progress Lawyers Network (PLN), due donne palestinesi stanno cercando giustizia contro un’azione ritenuta illegale e discriminatoria.
Questa non è solo una questione di diritto contrattuale e di tutela dei consumatori: è il riflesso di un problema sistemico di esclusione finanziaria che i palestinesi affrontano in Europa e non solo.
