Waubeka of Fredonia, located in Ozaukee County in the state of Wisconsin has is a quiet unincorporated hamlet which was once a bustling commercial and industrial district in 1870s-1890s. Waubeka is a unique space on the Milwaukee River in a small valley which has not yet been modernized with chain stores and big modern day business. Today it host several small business operations and numerous residents. Since Waubeka still has the feel of the past building owners of what was once a Cheese Factory and another 1850 built blacksmith home have decided to lead the mission to nominate Waubeka as a Historic District. Several steps have been sponsored by Klessig's Riverside Group LLC to conclude if Waubeka would have the privilage of being considered as a Wisconsin State Historic District. Klessig's Riverside Group LLC hired Preserve LLC of Milwaukee to assist in requesting a visit from the Wisconsin State Historic Preservation Officer to conclude if Waubeka had credential and the feel to be nominated as a Historic District. Fortunately the SHPO approved and recommended the buildings to be included in the proposed Historic District. Klessig's Riverside LLC next goal was to set up a Public Information Meeting for all owners of the buildings in the proposed district and the surrounding community members. The meeting proved to be an exceptional turnout and with help from neighbors talking to neighbors it was found at least 75% of the building owners in the Proposed Historic District were in support of nominating Waubeka. In June 2024 we became an official 501c3 to further our ability to fundraise for our cause. The cost of the nomination which last estimated to not to exceed $22,000. Waubeka Historic District Association is ready to host events and create opportunities to raise the funds needed to nominate Waubeka community as a Historic District.
We hosted our first Outdoor Music Festival this past September with 3 bands on the Milwaukee River at Waubeka Public House. It was a great success.
A Fredonia resident and local online magazine creator and editor kindly wrote an online article on Waubeka before the public information meeting took place which is linked here for you reading convenience. The link can provide some context and insight to Waubeka. Thank you for considering donating and viewing this fundraising page.
