Located off the coast of 🇹🇿Tanzania, Africa, at the southern end of Zanzibar Island, Kizimkazi's pollution issue has never been more dire, posing dangerous threats to the local environment & health of the village's community.
Our mission is to incentivize the local community to clean up litter and plastic waste in Kizimkazi, in exchange for a 15% discount on kiziwater's 20L jugs.Â
The Tufahamiane women (NGO) of Green Zanzibar require donations to kickstart this initiative, as construction equipment is needed to build a holding space for localizing this collected waste, creating a barrier between microplastic pollution and the village ecosystem.
💧🚰  KiziWater is one of Green Zanzibar’s established initiatives, contributing to both environmental sustainability and the Tufahamine women’s economic prosperity. Recycled jugs are refilled with safe-to-drink Nano-filtered groundwater and sold to the community at Green Zanzibar’s project site
This new development of Green Zanzibar addresses the issue of plastic waste throughout Kizimkazi’s village. By applying a discount on KiziWater in exchange for a bag of plastic from local litter throughout the community, we can serve both the eco-friendly mission of Green Zanzibar and boost KiziWater’s financial opportunity. Less litter in Kizimkazi reduces threats to the local environment posed by microplastics, and the incentive of discounted clean water gives KiziWater an advantage over other companies, further serving the financial prosperity of the Tufahamiane women's NGO behind it.Â
HOW IT WORKS
Members of the community bring bags of plastic and non-biodegradable garbage from the streets to Green Zanzibar. From here, the bags will be moved to an eco-friendly holding space at the project site. Here, the trash will be held temporarily until collected on a monthly basis. In return for the bags of gathered plastic, customers receive a 15 - 20% discount on KiziWater refills, providing more access to clean, safe drinking water. This approach supports both environmental protection and community welfare.
