CHALLENGES IN GUARANDA

40% of the rural population surrounding the town of Guaranda, Ecuador lives in poverty. Due to the lack of employment, education, infrastructure and healthcare, the area has high rates of issues such as child malnutrition (48%), teenage pregnancy (26%) & early school leavers (75%).

90% of people in the rural communities are indigenous, but their culture and language is under threat, as many young people abandon their culture and leave for the cities in search of a better life.

WHAT WE'RE DOING

Here at the El Terreno Foundation, we are on a mission to co-create more vibrant, prosperous and regenerative communities, where migration is a choice - not a necessity. We receive international interns at our Cultural Exchange Centre, who develop research and pilot projects - which we then hand over to the charity and rely on donor like you to help us make long term change possible!

We work closely with community leaders and organisations (schools, health centres, nurseries and water committees) on a wide range of projects, from architecture to anthropology to medicine to sustainable agriculture.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

While interns make important strides to address critical local challenges, we remain a small independent organisation with limited funds to make the impact that is desperately needed. Contributions from donors go a long way in scaling our projects to make an even bigger difference in the lives in the low-income indigenous communities of Ecuador.

DONATE NOW

So please donate today, share with your network and follow what we do, so we can continue improving the future for rural communities in the Ecuadorian Andes of Guaranda. ¡Cultural Exchange for Collective Change!
