3 Weeks ago, while shopping at a traditional market, I stumbled upon a sight that shattered my heart.
Under a tofu seller’s table, hidden between boxes and dirt, lay a fragile cat, weak, barely breathing. His face was disfigured, the skin around his nose was severely damaged, eaten away by what later turned out to be a tumor. His body was dirty, thin, trembling. His eyes, half-closed from pain, still held a flicker of life.
I couldn’t walk away.
After finishing my groceries, I gently picked him up and brought him home. The next morning, we went straight to the vet. Blood tests, X-rays, and examinations followed. The results were devastating: he had been suffering from an aggressive skin tumor for a very long time. The tumor had eaten away his nose, entered his throat and mouth. He couldn't breathe properly. Eating was torture, whatever small bites he tried to swallow would sometimes come out through his nose. The pain must have been unbearable.
The vet, with deep compassion, suggested euthanasia. "The chance of recovery is less than 10%," they said.
But I just couldn’t do it.
I’m not a doctor, I’m not a hero, I’m just a woman, living alone, who believes that every soul I meet is sent to me for a reason. That God and the universe entrusted him into my care, not to end his life, but to try my best to fight for it. My job is not to be an executioner, but a vessel of love, care, and hope.
So I chose to fight..!
He is still under veterinary care, receiving pain management, supportive treatments, and love every single day. His recovery may be uncertain, but every hour he lives is a gift. And though I am a retired, working freelance, and caring for over 35 rescued cats at home with no team or support, I continue this journey with faith.
His medical bills are now over $1,600 USD and counting. I don’t know how much more will be needed. But what I do know is: I cannot do this alone.
💔 Will you help me carry this burden?
