Throughout the span of my 20+year career, I have seen that children miss school and then show up exhausted and stressed because they were evicted from their homes. Also, it is really heartbreaking when I see our long term tenants who are elderly living in apartments and harassed by landlords who seek to evict them. Or Black and Brown communities who have been pushed out due to high rents.
Our Rent Stabilization and Eviction for Good Cause Ordinance is a key to fostering equity-centered policies, and practices for all Black and Brown, LGBTQIIA+, the elderly and individuals with disabilities communities.
As your Rent Board Commissioner, I will demonstrate effective public organizational management, collaborative, action-oriented and transparent board governance, proper oversight of fiscal development and management using data informed practices. I would be the only Latina non-profit executive director and certified public education social worker and administrator to serve on the Rent Board.
