VA Hearts of Healing Campaign

Friends and family, 

Our names are Parker Sternberger, Betsy Laskin, and Mary Michael Peterson, juniors at The Connelly School of the Holy Child and founders of Tigers for America, a student-led organization dedicated to supporting our nation’s veterans. As part of our mission, we are proud to partner with Purple Heart Homes to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those who have served. 

We are reaching out to our incredible community for support. Together, we can make a difference for a family in need. Please see below for details on our important fundraising efforts and join us in supporting this worthy cause.

Urgent update for donors and potential donors to the Virginia Hearts of Healing campaign: While we have reached our initial matching campaign goal of $15,000, the project's true scope has become clear. Our research indicates that the total cost of this project, materials, and associated work is close to $60,000 based on initial estimates. We are working with contractors and building suppliers to refine our estimate, but we also need to keep momentum on our fundraising efforts, hence this update and adjusted fundraising goal. Thanks for your help assisting this family and the twins who are in need.

The Purple Heart Homes Central Virginia Volunteer Community - Organized Group (VCOG) and the Lynchburg Area Veterans Council (LAVC) have partnered to support a local family impacted by tragedy. This effort addresses critical housing and safety needs while raising awareness about veteran mental health and suicide prevention.

Matching Funds Opportunity:
The M.I.K.E Endowment has pledged to match donations up to $15,000, doubling the impact of your gift!

Why It Matters:
In late September, a veteran tragically took his own life, leaving behind two children now living in overcrowded and under-resourced conditions. This campaign will provide the support needed to rebuild their home and give them a safe place to heal.
