UGK Community First’s mission is much more than just providing nutritious meals to children across Richmond — we aim to educate our community through food.
Our childcare feeding program provides childcare centers across Richmond with USDA approved meals that are chef-made and carefully crafted. Our children deserve the best tasting, deliciously heartwarming food. Every recipe in the world comes with a story, traveling across the world and landing on plates everywhere. We aim to tell this story, giving children an opportunity to learn more about history and culture while expanding their palette. We teach children what nutrition means, that eating healthy isn’t about kale and almonds, but an opportunity to explore the world and fill their hearts, bellies, and minds with approachable meals.
UGK Community First’s method of food education is instrumental in fighting food insecurity, a difficult problem that deeply impacts communities across our country. Research shows that providing access to affordable healthy foods does not change the eating habits of a community. To fight food insecurity, we need a multi-level approach. Early intervention through education is an important step in decreasing food insecurity in Richmond, which is why we need your help!
