The Fountain Fund was founded by Shara McGlothan, a Marriage and Family Therapist. Through her professional growth in the mental health field, she quickly identified a hardship in clients accessing therapy and a burden placed on providers to accommodate outside of their means. According to CDC, 1 in 5 individuals live with or will experience a mental health illness. Paying for therapy can be a struggle for many especially for those without insurance. For those with insurance there are many restrictions placed on treatment and a lack of privacy. Insurance can also have a low reimbursement rate for providers with increased documentation requirements making this unsustainable for many providers.
The Fountain Fund is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization. We aim to increase the accessibility to mental healthcare within the Kansas City Metropolitan area by partnering with its communities. Through our organization, clients are able to access therapy services for free or at a reduced cost without the expectation that the providers overextend themselves. Similar to the function of a fountain, we seek to be connected to sources so we can provide to the community's need. The goal of this campaign is to cover costs of therapy services for the client while alleviating the burden placed on the providers to operate outside of their means when sliding their scale.
Application cycles will open to identify individuals in need of financial support for mental health services. As applications are approved, client will identify a provider from our approved provider list. Providers will be paid out by The Fountain Fund directly. Clients and providers get to maintain their autonomy throughout the treatment process allowing for a win-win opportunity for everyone. We are excited to do our part so more time is spent on healing.
