Kyle David Hamel was a passionate pilot who took every opportunity to share that passion with others. Whether he was flying his family and friends for a "hundred-dollar hamburger" at an airport cafe, shuttling Southwest Airlines travelers to their distant destinations in a Boeing 737, or mentoring prospective aviation students at 10,000 feet, Kyle's passengers could feel his love for flying. Kyle's family created The Kyle David Hamel Foundation, an Arizona nonprofit corporation (application for 501(c)(3) status pending), aimed at continuing to share Kyle's passion for flying. This will be accomplished by, and funds are being raised for the purpose of, creating and funding an endowed scholarship in memory of Kyle at his alma mater, K-State Salina. The purpose of the scholarship is to help students in aviation and aviation-related programs pursue their passions by easing some of the associated financial burden.
