If you live or work in Thurston County, Washington, The JOLT News Organization is your local DAILY nonprofit news organization. We depend on public support to cover about 90 percent of our expenses. (The other 10% come from advertising.)
Like other local-news organizations The JOLT does more than report facts – we also connect neighbors, hold leaders accountable, provide the context for us to make decisions in our lives, and tell us about the wider world of arts, travel, and leisure.
But local news – both newspapers and radio stations – have been scaling back their operations. Too many have shut their doors and disappeared altogether, creating “news deserts” in more and more communities. We're fighting that trend every day.
In previous years, grants from national philanthropies contributed as much as 60% of our revenues. Nearly all of those donors are paying attention to other crises now. And many local people who might otherwise be donors are giving to regional public radio and TV stations instead of to our hyper-local organization.
In short, we need your support now more than ever, especially if you can give to support us every month. Thank you.
