... to fund our ongoing climate work and our special projects for 2026, Flight Free Schools and our documentary on aviation greenwash.
What do we do?
Flight Free UK is a climate change and behaviour change charity that encourages people to travel without flying. We're on a mission to inspire change and create a culture shift away from high-carbon travel.
Why do we do it?
None of us can have escaped seeing the devastating effects of climate change this summer that every year get closer to home. We educate people on the link between our actions and these consequences, and inspire many more thousands of people to act.
Out of all the things we can do for the climate, not flying is extremely high impact – but it's one of the things that people are least likely to do.
So we talk about the subject no one wants to talk about, with the aim of having a BIG climate impact.
How do we do it?
By giving accurate climate information to travellers, pushing back against industry greenwash and giving information and inspiration for low-carbon travel.
Our multiple social media channels and frequent public events are just one way of getting the message out there. Other methods are writing articles for the papers, and being interviewed on TV, radio and podcasts.
We lobby government to make changes that will help people make low carbon choices through responding to consultations, running Parliamentary petitions, and protesting.
Greenwash documentary
The aviation industry is really good at keeping the environmental impact hidden. We're promised carbon neutral flying and sustainable fuels. But it's greenwash.
So one of our special projects for 2026/2027 is to make a documentary to expose aviation greenwash, which will help to push back against industry misinformation.
Filming and editing is well underway, with the finished product hopefully being released later this year. Funding will help to put the finishing touches on the project.
Flight Free Schools
Another special project for 2026/27 focusses on the culture shift aspect of our work: Flight Free Schools helps schools avoid flying for trips, helping to change the culture amongst our young people that has normalised flying, and create a generation of low-carbon travellers, not frequent flyers.
How do we use your money?
Our target of £10,000 will cover our regular campaign work for a year, as well as contribute to our special projects.
This includes:
> printed materials with climate information and travel inspiration (e.g. postcards, stickers, infographics)
> travel to speak at events and community meetings across the UK, sharing our message with as wide an audience as possible
> our programme of online public events, which explore different areas of climate and travel
> technology including design software and website costs
> volunteer expenses
Where does our funding come from?
We have been fortunate enough to receive a handful of small grants over the past few years, but the majority of our funding has always come from you, the people who believe in our work.
We are incredibly grateful that you have enabled us to do so much, in lieu of receiving big grants.
Last year your generous donations enabled us to:
> educate and inspire over 6,000 people through our events programme
> reach 30,000 people through our social media channels
> hold 30 talks and public information stalls around the UK
> gain over 10,000 signatures on our Parliamentary Petition to stop airport expansion
> save over 3,000 tonnes CO2 through people taking the Flight Free Challenge
Contributing to our annual fundraiser will help us build on what we've already achieved as well as do more, reach more people, and help change the way we think about travel.
It's never been more important to shift the dial on aviation and climate.
