Our Mission
The Children's Early Learning Space empowers communities by nurturing the potential of children, families, and early childhood educators.
Quality Early Education
We believe strongly in fostering a connection with nature, and much of our program takes place outdoors. Through play in a carefully planned environment, we guide each child's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. We support and nurture families during important developmental years by providing resources and a sense of community.
Our History
We began as the company childcare center for Ben & Jerry's. Always ahead of the curve on social issues, the company opened the center in 1989, long before most companies were deeply engaged in the early education movement. The center became independent in 1999 and moved into its current location in 2003.
Our Location
Our beautiful home, situated along the banks of the Winooski River, historically served as the Duxbury Corner School. The school house was first erected in 1894 and later rebuilt, following a fire, in 1916. Today, TCELS retains much of its rich architectural details, including antique chalkboards, original brick and mortar, ornate wood paneling, and unique vintage green pantones. If only these walls could speak!
