Eyes2Eyes is a registered non profit organisation in South Africa. Our mission is to fund sight restoration for young children and adults who have preventable corneal blindness. All of our beneficiaries are public health patients and cannot afford the life changing treatment to give them their eyesight back.
Corneal blindness presents in the early teenage years. You can imaging the impact of this on a child's education, personal development and mental health. Very often these children are teased mercilessly as they do not look blind. They become very isolated and withdrawn as a result. Teachers mistake their inability to read and write or keep up in the classroom with learning difficulties.
The change we witness in young lives after they have been fitted with their customised scleral lenses brings tears to our eyes. Patients and their families often weep tears of joy on the day they are fitted with their lenses.
