In July 2025, catastrophic flash floods swept through Central Texas, especially along the Guadalupe River in Kerr County. The disaster claimed at least 118 lives, including 28 children, with over 180 still missing. Kerr County alone reported 94 fatalities.
Hundreds of residents were displaced, seeking shelter temporary shelter.. Communication services are unavailable in large parts of the affected areas seriously hampering the rescue and relief work..
Relief efforts face severe challenges. Debris-filled terrain, poor visibility, and unauthorized drone activity hampered rescue operations. Despite support from state, federal, and international responders, coordination proved difficult.
This disaster has exposed major gaps in Texas’ emergency response systems, prompting urgent calls for better preparedness, communication, and early-warning infrastructure.
