I want to share a bit of my story with you. My name is Jay I was a first-generation college student and am on a mission to pay it forward! Please consider supporting the Taste of New Future: Around The World fundraiser. 

My Story

Growing up as a first-generation Mexican American, I often found myself navigating life’s pivotal moments without anyone in my immediate circle who had walked that path before. I was the first in my family to pursue higher education, which meant I faced the world of college applications, financial aid forms, and academic challenges largely on my own. While my parents and family provided love and encouragement, they didn’t have the firsthand experience to guide me through these uncharted waters.

But I wasn’t alone. Thanks to the support of mentors, coaches, leadership programs, and the unwavering belief of my family, I gained access to opportunities that changed the course of my life. It was their investment in my future that made it possible for me to step into spaces I had only dreamed of—spaces in competitive industries like financial services, tech, and consulting. These experiences have given me invaluable skills that I now carry with me every day.

The impact of education on my life is immeasurable. It has opened doors, built bridges, and provided me with a platform to grow beyond what I once thought possible. But I know that my story isn’t unique. There are countless first-generation college students out there who are just like I was—full of potential, but without the support network or resources to unlock it.

That’s why I’m committed to paying it forward. I know how transformative education can be, and I understand firsthand the challenges that first-generation students face. By supporting them, we can change their life trajectories, just as mine was changed. Your donation will help provide scholarships, mentorship, and resources to these students, ensuring they have the opportunities they deserve to reach their full potential.

My Request
I hope you will support Taste of New Futures: Around the World, a fundraiser event hosted by the New Futures Associate Board, on October 4, 2024, from 6-9pm at Skyline609! 

New Futures is among the only college success organizations leveraging shorter-term post-secondary credentials (usually community college degrees) to launch rewarding careers in our region's high-growth sectors.  We partner with our Scholars and Alumni to support them through their academic programs, provide flexible scholarship funding, and connect them to skills, professional development opportunities, and new networks so they can complete their credentials and spring into their careers from a place of confidence and strength. 

This unique event will transport guests on a global cultural journey through immersive exhibits, authentic cuisine, live performances and more - all in support of providing scholarships and advising resources to young people in the DMV.

This event allows New Futures to share our mission while celebrating the diversity of cultures in an atmosphere of joy and togetherness. Your sponsorship will enable us to raise crucial funds supporting education, employment services and success for our scholars  each year. Thank you for helping us reach our goal of $30,000, which will provide multiple first-time scholarships.
