This year, as TAK closes out the calendar year in the midst of an extremely lush and bounteous 11th season, we are taking the opportunity to celebrate how fortunate we feel to be a part of such a rich and diverse ecosystem of contemporary art making. We imagine TAK to be a growing, adaptable organism that can only exist in symbiosis with our surroundings. That’s why the theme of our fundraiser this year is “the forest.”
When you support TAK, your contribution strengthens every arm of our organization, from our self-produced concerts, collaborations, and commissions, to our presenting and curatorial work with SWOONFEST and TAK Editions. We approach every TAK project with care and conscious consideration about how our work will elevate not just our own artistry as a group of five, but the incredible network of artists and community builders that surround us.
With your support, we have been fortunate in recent seasons to have experienced tremendous growth, and this has allowed us to achieve some truly wild dreams. From our self produced concerts, commissioning work, educational residencies, and workshops, to presenting artists we love through SWOONFEST and the TAK Editions Podcast, and thoughtfully curated split bills, we've been grateful for each moment.
This past season we:
• Completed a year-long residency at UPenn, and performed some of our favorite repertoire at Bowerbird while we were in Philly.
• Organized SWOONFEST, a two-day celebration featuring our friends Phong Tran; HxH (Chris Williams and Lester st. Louis); DM R (with Joy Guidry; Natacha Diels; gabby fluke-mogul, Tcheser Holmes, Mara Rosenbloom; Michelle Lou; and Sour Spirit.
• Released nine podcast episodes with: Nina Dante and Bethany Younge; Catherine Lamb; Kier Gogwilt and Johnny Chang; gabby fluke-mogul; Chris Williams; Natacha Diels; Sour Spirit; Michelle Lou; Phong Tran; sinonó
• Performed on the Re:Sound festival in Cleveland with Brandon Lopez
• Presented Interbeing II by Eric Wubbels, sharing the bill with sinonó
• Premiered 8 new student works at Cornell University
•Brought music by Michelle Lou and Eric Wubbels to The Lab in San Francisco and Indexical in Santa Cruz
• Premiered 8 new student works at USC
And our year isn’t done yet! Before 2023 is over we will also begin extended residencies with student composers at Princeton, UChicago and University of Huddersfield; present a world premiere by Bryan Jacobs at Theatre MITU in Brooklyn; and perform new music by American and Thai composers in Bangkok.
None of this would be possible without our small and mighty community of donors—none of this would be possible without you! When you contribute to TAK, you're supporting the entire artistic ecosystem inside which we are intertwined. You're supporting the incredible professional artists we commission and split bills with, the students we work with, the musical discourse and records we create with our podcast and record label, TAK Editions, and so much more.
