A Legacy of Service, A Future in Peril.
Ilham is not just a refugee; he is a young man who, even as a child, stood on the front lines of the effort to build a free Afghanistan. Between 2008 and 2014, Ilham served as a "Child Artist" and freelancer for critical U.S.-led initiatives:
U.S. Army Support: For 11 months, he worked on AM Radio Station 501, producing programs designed to promote the messages of the Coalition Forces and ISAF from Bagram Airfield.
USAID Anti-Corruption: He served for two years on the USAID project "Fight Corruption Tooth and Nail," using his voice to raise awareness for national civic education.
The SIV "Gap"
Despite his "honorable, faithful, and meritorious" service, Ilham falls into a tragic bureaucratic gap. His 11 months of direct support for the U.S. Army falls just short of the strict length-of-employment requirements for a Special Immigrant Visa (SIV). Because he served his country and the international community so young, he is now left without the formal protections that should have been his lifeline.
The December Deadline
For years, a student visa in Turkey was Ilham’s only shield against deportation. That shield expires this December. For a freethinker who served with the U.S. military, deportation to Afghanistan is not just a return home; it is a death sentence.
A Life in Limbo
Ilham has now spent one-fifth of his life trapped in survival mode. The economic crisis in Turkey has made basic food and medicine nearly inaccessible. He is currently battling:
Physical Health: A hereditary spinal condition has forced him to rely on a cane for mobility, while malnutrition and severe allergies continue to take their toll.
Isolation: Since his social media was silenced in 2023, his pet rabbit, Bun Bun, is his only daily companion in a society where he cannot safely be himself.

We have stood by Ilham since 2021, but the window is closing. Your support provides the emergency living costs, medical care, and legal aid needed to move him to a safe, secular country before his visa expires.
Join the Mission
We are asking for a lifeline. The price of one monthly coffee can be the difference between Ilham’s continued survival and a catastrophic deportation.
