♦ 離散時代，一起承傳香港電影文化 ♦
香港電影節（英國）發軔於2022年，是英國首個及唯一由香港人舉辦、以香港為焦點的電影節，致力在港人離散的時代，承傳香港電影文化。
當新晉導演敢於拍下關於時代變遷、社會議題的故事，無論作品能否在其原生地公映，電影節也願意為他們提供放映及交流平台，將香港以至亞洲的當代視野帶到英國的自由土壤上。
我們也希望電影節放映能為移英港人帶來慰藉：相隔千里欣賞同一作品喚起的共鳴，能夠接通離散與留下的港人；在英國與不同族群現場觀影，也能連結港人與東亞離散社群與英國本土居民。
♦ 發揚香港電影，同行才能走下去 ♦
2022及2023年的兩屆電影節以及年中舉辦的特別放映，遍及英國7大城市逾25個放映場地，超過110場放映以及50項活動，共接觸了逾22,000人次的觀眾。
電影節的營運需要投入大量資源，上屆電影節我們約7成支出用於支付電影版權及節目製作費用。除了向公營機構申請項目資助、從票房及售賣紀念品得到收入，電影節能夠順利誕生，端賴認同我們願景的有心人捐款支持。一般國家都會贊助移居外地的國民在外推動本國文化，但香港電影節（英國）選片一向重視時代意義，展示來自香港真誠、勇敢和多元的聲音，讓電影回復一種自由表達的藝術形式，故此並未得到香港政府或公營部門任何形式支持，向公眾籌募經費也更形重要。

一般電影節都難以自負盈虧，其中主要原因為戲院佔大部分票房分成，通常佔60-70% 票房，電影節只能獲取30-40%票房。而電影節負擔全額電影版權租片費、以及由於電影節是主要的節目推廣者，也會承擔大部分的節目推廣費用。

目前我們希望籌募約八至十萬英鎊經費，支持 2024 全年工作及籌備2025 上半年電影節加全年活動的兩年工作（Muiltiple year) ，探索更多深耕細作的放映及其他方向的活動，以及長遠建立HKFF健康發展模式。要達成目標，單憑電影節數人團隊的力量並不足夠，還有靠有心人支持這個機構才能繼續走下去。如果你也樂見英國繼續有一個屬於香港人的電影節，在港人離散的年代讓人看見香港，希望您能不吝支持慷慨解囊，與我們一同將香港故事帶得更遠。
常見問題
我可以選擇捐款的模式嗎？
你可以選擇每月捐款或單次捐款，在捐款版面選擇「One-off」或「monthly」便可。
我選擇了月捐，遲些可以改變主意嗎？
你可以透過電郵或網上表格聯絡我們，我們的職員會協助取消月捐。請注意，取消月捐需時，未必能即時生效，此前您所訂定的月捐金額仍會自動從信用咭賬戶 / 扣賬咭連結的銀行賬戶中扣除，我們將於扣數後的30日內將有關款額退回。
我可以透過甚麼方式捐款？
我們接受透過Visa、MasterCard、American Express等扣賬咭 / 信用咭捐款，亦接受PayPal。身在英國可使用上述任何一種捐款方式，但如身處香港（即以香港IP上網）則只能以PayPal捐款。
捐款平台及支付平台需要收取手續費嗎？
用信用咭或PayPal捐款，你所選擇的捐款金額已包括捐款平台及支付平台收取的所有手續費，支付平台在扣除手續費後才會將捐款交予香港電影節（英國）。扣賬咭 / 信用咭捐款的手續費為捐款額的1.5%，加上每次交易15p；PayPal捐款的手續費為捐款額的2.9%，加上每次交易30p或HK$2.35。
第三方會知道我捐款給香港電影節嗎？
如透過扣賬咭 / 信用咭捐款，我們會採用Stripe平台收取捐款，銀行交易記錄僅會顯示轉帳至「Stripe」戶口，而不會顯示香港電影節（英國）為收款賬戶。但透過PayPal捐款，PayPal紀錄將顯示為HKFFUK。
捐款後你們會發出收據嗎？
捐款後系統會將電子收據發送至你填寫的電郵地址。另外歡迎你願意以電郵接收日後聯絡，我們會透過電郵分享電影節的最新活動及詳情。

♦ Passing on Hong Kong Culture in Diaspora ♦
Launched in 2022, the Hong Kong Film Festival UK stands as the only film festival in the UK that is organised by Hong Kongers and focuses on Hong Kong cinema, dedicated to passing on the Hong Kong cinema legacy amidst the Hong Kong diaspora.
When many emerging directors courageously capture the ethos of the times and issues in their societies with their films, which may or may not be allowed to be screened in their hometowns, the Festival serves to provide a platform for screening of these works and subsequent cultural exchanges, bringing Hong Kong as well as Asian perspectives to UK soil where freedom of expression is upheld.
The Festival also hopes to bring comfort to Hong Kongers in the UK. Appreciating the same film for Hong Kongers in the diaspora and those back home, while being thousands of miles apart, fosters a connection between them. Watching a film with different communities at a screening in the UK also connects Hong Kongers and other East Asian diasporic communities as well as British locals.
♦ Only You Can Further Our Work in Promoting Hong Kong Cinema ♦
The 2022 and 2023 editions of the festival, plus special screenings in-between, took place in over 25 screening venues covering 7 cities, with over 110 screenings and 50 events, reaching more than 22,000 attendances.
A lot of resources are required in the course; film licensing fees paid to copyright holders and programme production accounted for approximately 70% of expenses in 2023. For a film festival to take place, apart from project grants and sales of tickets and merchandise, donations from those who share our visions are essential to keep the festival running. Cultural promotion activities by migrants are often supported by their home country government, but this is not the case for us. The Hong Kong Film Festival UK receives no support from the Hong Kong government probably owing to its daring curatorial choices that includes even dissident voices, thus donations have a much greater importance in keeping the festival up and running.
Revenue of the Second HKFFUK
It is challenging for any film festival to be self-sustainable, as cinemas typically demand a 60-70% box office split, leaving only 30-40% of box office earnings for the festival. Conversely, a film festival usually fully bears the film licensing fees and the majority of the marketing and promotion costs.
Expenditure of the Second HKFFUK
We now target to raise £80-£100k for our upcoming programmes. In the multiple year 2024-early 2025, we will focus on activities in different communities for audience development, leading to our next edition of the main festival in 2025. To accomplish these, we can only enlist support from the wider community so that we can carry on our operations. If you would like to continue having a film festival in the UK that brings Asian especially Hong Kong perspectives in an era of Hong Kong diaspora in the UK, we plead for your generosity in donating to us to further the Hong Kong story.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I choose the mode of donation?
You can choose to donate on a monthly or a one-off basis by selecting the “Monthly” or “One-time” button on the donation page. .
I have chosen to make a monthly donation. Can I change my mind later?
You can contact us via email or online form and our staff will process the cancellation request. Please note that it takes time for the cancellation to be effective. The amount of monthly donation will still be deducted from the account associated with your debit / credit card used for donating until the cancellation takes effect. We will refund the amount to your account within 30 days of the transaction.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept debit / credit cards like Visa, MasterCard and American Express. We also welcome donations by PayPal. You are welcome to donate via any of the above means if you are in the UK. Donations made from Hong Kong (according to IP address) can only be made via PayPal.
Do the donation platform and payment gateways have service charges?
When making donations, the amount you choose has already included all service charges. We receive your donation after service charges are deducted. If you are using debit / credit cards, the service charge is 1.5% of your donation plus 15p for each transaction; if you are donating through PayPal, the service charge is 2.9% of your donation, plus 30p or HK$2.35 per transaction.
Will third parties know that I have donated to the Hong Kong Film Festival (UK)?
We use the Stripe platform to receive donations. If you are making donations using debit / credit cards, bank transactions will only show the "Stripe" account as recipient, and Hong Kong Film Festival (UK) will not appear on your transaction records. If you are donating through PayPal, the transaction records will show “HKFFUK”.
Will receipts be issued for my donations?
The donation platform will send an electronic receipt to the email address you provide. We are more than happy if you are willing to use your email address to receive further information on our future programmes.
What will you do with my donation?
Funds raised will be used for organising the festival proper and other film-related programmes (e.g. seasonal screening series, community screenings, film talks, production workshops, short film competitions, etc.), and we will announce the details via our social media or you may opt to receive such information via email.
