“Every kid is one caring adult away from being a success story.”

—Josh Shipp

Children are the greatest resource we have for our future. And yet, they face a great many challenges that put them at risk of not achieving a successful future, including poverty, homelessness, a physical or cognitive disability, abuse, bullying, racism, or something that just sets them apart.

Your Unique Definition is a 501c3 non-profit organization located in Texas. We draw our inspiration from the distinctive traits of children who are just a little bit different. We celebrate those differences and view them as strengths rather than shortcomings because we believe each child should be treated with respect and dignity regardless of their struggles.

Our Mission is to empower children who face adversity due to academic, mental, and physical elements, poverty, lack of education, and limited access to basic necessities. We strive to improve their lives by providing them with the resources they need to thrive and reach their full potential.

Our Programs

Project Summer Curriculum & Incentive Program

Project Summer is a project dedicated to improving the lives of children suffering from poverty, lack of education, and limited access to necessities. The primary objective of the Project Summer Campaign is to combat the phenomenon known as "summer slides" among children and youth in grade school. By implementing a comprehensive Curriculum and Incentive Program, the campaign aims to bridge the learning gap that typically occurs during the summer break as well as provide healthy snacks. The program is designed to provide educational resources, incentives, and snacks that engage and motivate students to continue learning and growing academically, ultimately preventing the loss of knowledge and skills over the summer months. Through this campaign, we aspire to empower and support students in their educational journey, ensuring a seamless transition into the following academic year.

Elements of Identity

Elements of Identity is an innovative program that focuses on empowering children to explore and express their unique identities. This program provides a safe and supportive space for children to delve into various aspects of their individuality, including their interests, emotions, and strengths. By engaging in a variety of activities and creative exercises, children are encouraged to develop a strong sense of self, build resilience, and embrace their unique qualities.

The goal of this program is to foster empathy, understanding, and acceptance of children and youth. The problem our program aims to address is the increasing prevalence of stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues among children and youth in the United States.

Tiny Voices, Big Impact

At "Tiny Voices, Big Impact," we firmly believe that every child, regardless of their abilities, deserves to be heard, supported, and empowered. As a leading advocate for children with disabilities, our mission is to ensure that their voices are amplified and that real change takes place in their lives.

Expressive Echoes

Poetry serves as a powerful tool for children to explore and express their unique identities. By incorporating poetry workshops and activities, children are encouraged to harness their creativity, tap into their emotions, and find their own voice. Through poetry, children can develop a stronger sense of self, build resilience, and embrace their individuality within a supportive and nurturing environment.

The Learning Tree

The Learning Tree adult and child literacy program is designed to address the needs of both adults and children who struggle with reading and writing skills. The program aims to improve literacy levels by providing educational resources, support, and tailored instruction to individuals of varying ages and abilities.

YouthReach Text Line

YouthReach is a text line dedicated to providing support and assistance to teenagers facing emotional challenges. As a confidential and accessible platform, YouthReach aims to create a safe space for teens to express their feelings, seek guidance, and receive professional help. Trained counselors and volunteers are available to listen, offer empathy, and provide resources to navigate through various issues such as stress, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationships, and more.
