University of Providence 2026 Immersion Trips
1. Catholic Charities and Denver Rescue Mission, Denver, Colorado
Both Catholic Charities and Denver Rescue Mission have been working with the marginalized throughout the Denver Metropolitan area for decades. Their outreach includes providing food and housing assistance — creating safe places and food security for men, women, and children in need. We will be working at a home for women and children, a food warehouse, and a Community Center for the unhoused preparing and serving meals for those in need. Evenings will be spent reflecting on the day, sharing the evening meal, and engaging in our understanding of the struggles of those living on the edges of society.
2. St. Francis Inn, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The Franciscans have been working with the homeless and marginalized for over fifty years in the Kensington neighborhood in Philadelphia. They run a soup kitchen providing sit down meals each day to over 150 homeless. They also run a barber shop, a clothing store (Marie's Closet) and work closely with a health clinic. We will engage in the life and rhythm of the Franciscan community and their long-term volunteers. There will also be a chance to see the sights of Philly. Evenings will be a chance to reflect on the day, share the evening meal, and engage in understanding the life of those on the margins.
Donations provide for underwriting the cost of transportation, food, and housing. The overall cost of the Faith in Action Immersion Trips is $13,000. Both groups will spend five weeks prior to the immersion trips meeting weekly to prepare for what they will be encountering. There will also be post trip meetings upon our return to campus. Each student pays $150 to go and engages in fundraising as well. Every donation helps!
