The Arts Project of Cherry Grove (APCG) has been the beating heart of our Fire Island community since 1948. Our gilded proscenium theater isn’t just a stage, it’s on the National Register of Historic Places as the oldest continuously operating LGBTQIA+ theater in the U.S.
This summer, APCG strengthened our mission by partnering with trailblazing theaters like TOSOS (The Other Side of Silence), National Queer Theater—an Obie‑winning collective dedicated to uplifting unheard queer storytellers—and Long Island’s CM Performing Arts Center, a nonprofit “home” for people from all walks of life, with its own unique queer history.
These partnerships helped to revitalize our intergenerational theater program, Rainbow Connection, and showcase emerging new queer playwrights with our Cherry Picked Play Reading Series.
Despite sold‑out crowds, these new partnerships and programs require additional resources to help APCG steward them through the end of the 2025 season. A generous gift to APCG will invest in a 77‑year legacy of storytelling, support diverse collaborations, and ensure the next generation of LGBTQIA+ artists have a stage in Cherry Grove!
