Support Bike Space Crowdfunding Campaign!
Dear Supporters,
We urgently need your help to make a significant difference in the lives of the residents at Nea Kavala refugee camp in Greece. Open Cultural Center Greece (OCC Greece), a nonprofit organization, has been actively supporting and empowering the refugee community in the North of Greece since 2016. One of our most crucial projects is the Bike Space initiative, providing vital mobility to those who would otherwise not have it.
The Nea Kavala refugee camp, located 6 kilometres away from the nearest town, Polykastro, lacks any public transport services. This means that residents have to walk on foot to access essential facilities such as doctors, pharmacies, schools, and supermarkets, as well as transportation to major cities like Thessaloniki. This situation becomes especially dangerous during extreme weather conditions like the recent heatwave, and the upcoming winter months.
The bikes provided by OCC are lifelines for the camp residents, offering them the freedom to travel to Polykastro safely and autonomously. However, sustaining the Bike Space project is a significant challenge due to limited funding. We aim to provide 30 more residents with bikes, but to achieve this, we need to raise 1,500€.
How You Can Help:
We kindly request your support in our crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for 30 bikes, ensuring the safety and well-being of Nea Kavala camp residents. Your donation, no matter how small, will directly contribute to enhancing their mobility and overall quality of life.
Act Now:

About OCC Greece:
Open Cultural Center Greece (OCC Greece) is a nonprofit organisation which is active in the North of Greece, at the Nea Kavala refugee camp next to Polykastro. The organisation was created in 2016, originally unofficially supporting refugees living in a temporary location known as “Idomeni Camp”, and later on in 2017 it was established in Polykastro and devoted to work assisting and empowering the refugee, asylum seekers, and migrants community of the local region of the Municipality of Peonia. Its beneficiaries consist a very vulnerable social group of people that have few to no opportunities to socialize and interact and integrate to the Greek society outside of the refugee camp called “Domi Polikastrou” or “Nea Kavala”. Throughout the years, OCC Greece has developed detailed non-formal educational materials, and activities to support all the demographic groups that the refugee camp may contain, in an inclusion and trauma-sensitive way.
The organization specialises in fostering social and (future) economic integration, providing learning activities, and safe spaces to minors, women, and men with traumatic experiences, while assessing the needs of the people in order to connect them with other organisations in Greece that can provide more detailed services.
The organisation works for the integration and social inclusion of migrants and refugees in local host communities by developing educational, cultural and inclusion activities for refugee communities, including non-formal education for adults and children, sports & leisure activities, transport services, employability workshops and more.
