Meet Kelvin Smith, a young man who grew up in a single-room shack in Jamaica with six siblings and a single mom. Empty stomachs and kerosene lamps were his reality. School was a half-mile trek, often feeling twice that long on an empty belly.
We became his lighthouse, seeing the doctor in the boy with calloused hands from textbooks. He landed in America with a plane ticket, three shirts, four pants, and a heart brimming with hope, his medical books his only treasure.
Today Kelvin makes the dean's list and is closer to his dream of becoming a cardiologist.
"Empowering futures, one step at a time."
Our Precious Pearls Project uplifts women who have survived challenges such as homelessness, abuse, or addiction.
Working closely with Heartshare St. Vincent, we identify the women who are treated to a full day of makeovers and pampering and revealed to the public during a three-hour formal gala. Each woman is gifted with a new wardrobe and a pair of pearl earrings and will be paired with a counselor who will help by matching them with additional human and social resources, to aid in their empowerment.
Every dollar donated brings us one step closer to breaking down barriers and creating opportunities.
