On 2 January 2024, we received the tragic news that artist Mohamed Al Zamer had been martyred by the Israeli bombing of Gaza. Mohamed joined our workshop at Eltiqa Gallery in 2015 and designed the Hasakah miniature fishing boat for our collection. We remember Mohamed as a poetic, skilled, dedicated artist and unique person.
Al Zamer leaves behind his wife and four children. We started a fundraiser to help his family survive the current devastating situation.
We will collect the funds through our Belgian bank account and transfer them to a private partner in Ramallah. This person will transfer the money (via the Bank of Palestine) to our partner in Gaza. He will then give the funds to Al Zamer's wife. Our campaign ends on 19 January 2024.
Our studio has only one artwork from Al Zamer left; we will ship it to the person with the highest donation.

Miniature fishing boat showing the maximum fishing distance on a rope
Handpainted wood, 27 x 10 x 5 cm
Design: Mohamed Al Zamer
This seemingly innocent toy represents the smallest kind of Gaza fishing boat, Hasakah, used to fish near the beach. The fishermen stand on the boat while catching fish, but since the Israeli restrictions on fishing were imposed, the activity of fishing in Gaza has been seriously undermined. The length of the rope is proportional to the Hasakah, representing the maximum distance boats are allowed (in 2015) to go from the coast – 4 to 5 nautical miles or 9 to 10 km.
