As a Nevadan, I ask: "What about the waste?"
There will always be another nuclear plant meltdown. The only way to be sure it doesn't happen is to shut them down.
NIRS has been invaluable to us for over 30 years in our work to mitigate the nuclear threat!
Continue your long-time great work.
NIRS: an invaluable national organization. Brilliant people -- passionate to prepare the future for the radioactivity already unleashed upon the earth and to STOP MAKING MORE.
Retire fossil polititions!
Keep fighting the good fight! Nukes suck.
Nuclear power has the least energy return on investment, meaning that it is the most expensive. It is dangerous (Chernobyl, Fukushima, Three Mile Island) and maintenance costs over thousands and thousands of years make it prohibitive.
This terrible idea to expand nuclear energy production and to also expand the nuclear arsenal still has no solution for what to do with nuclear waste. There is no solution. We've known for decades that this is an invitation for planetary death. Not only for humans but for anything based on biologic building blocks-i.e. all plants & animals. It ensures that we will look like Mars in the future.
I spent the day at the Mass Statehouse. Both Senate and House version of the recent climate bill include nuclear fission in the definition of Clean energy. What?
Time to take down Big Nuclear and Big Utility!
